Improve road safety in Bosnia by implementing strict law for veh. lights and pedestrians
The Issue
Problem:
Bosnia has a serious problem with road safety. According to a recent study, over 50% of vehicles in Bosnia have at least one faulty light (cars, trucks, vans and even buses, every type of vehicles that can be seen on Bosnian roads). This poses a serious risk to drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. In addition, over 50% of drivers in Bosnia do not yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. This poses a serious risk to pedestrians, especially children and the elderly.
Solution:
The government of Bosnia should implement a strict law requiring all vehicles to have properly working lights and to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. This law should include penalties for drivers who are caught with faulty lights or who fail to yield to pedestrians and to pedestrians that go over the crosswalk when the red light is showing not to.
Benefits:
Implementing a strict law for properly working vehicle lights and enforcing pedestrian right of way would have a number of benefits, including:
* Improved road safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
* Reduced number of traffic accidents.
* Reduced number of injuries and fatalities from traffic accidents.
* Improved visibility for drivers, especially at night and in bad weather.
* Increased public confidence in the safety of Bosnia's roads.
Call to action:
We, the undersigned, urge the government of Bosnia to implement a strict law for properly working vehicle lights and to enforce pedestrian right of way. We believe that such a law is necessary to improve road safety and protect the lives of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
Specific measures that the government could take to enforce such a law:
* Increase police enforcement of traffic laws related to faulty lights and pedestrian right of way.
* Implement a system of automated traffic enforcement cameras that can detect and ticket vehicles with faulty lights and drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians.
* Require all vehicles to pass a safety inspection before being registered or licensed.
* Increase public awareness of the importance of properly working vehicle lights and pedestrian right of way.
