Improve Road Conditions in South Sacramento

The Issue

Poor road quality constitutes a significant problem for the residents of South Sacramento. Inadequate road maintenance not only creates discomfort for drivers but also greatly increases the risk for accidents. Furthermore, the poor road conditions have serious economic implications for car owners, forcing them to spend more money on frequent car part replacements.

As drivers who use these roads everyday, we encounter various hinderances on the roads. A survey with approaching 200 respondents also agree. These can be listed as (survey results):

  • Potholes (70.7% found at least somewhat often)
  • Unevenness (Not surveyed)
  • Random Bumps (86.2% found at least somewhat often)
  • Faded lines (91.5% found at least somewhat often)
  • Debris (85% found at least somewhat often)
  • Insufficient lighting (69.5% found at least somewhat often)
  • Cracks (Not surveyed)

All can prove uncomfortable to our experiences on these roads as we may find ourselves maneuvering around potholes and debris which may increase risk of drivers moving out of their designated lanes. Finding it hard to pinpoint where to go in areas with faded lines and insufficient lighting, especially in evening and night hours. Random bumps can prove uncomfortable to drivers and cracks are prevalent all over South Sacramento roads. We want to address all of these hindrances.

Some roads we want to address include Florin Rd., Meadowview Rd., Franklin Blvd., Freeport Blvd., Amherst St., etc. (Recommended by our survey respondents, not us).

According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, roads in California are in "poor condition", which costs each Californian driver approximately $799 per year in additional vehicle repairs and operating costs (TRIP Report, 2017). By investing in road repairs and maintenance, we can reduce accident rates, enhance driving comfort, and relieve financial burdens on car owners. It's time for us to take action. Let's call upon the South Sacramento municipal authorities to increase the quality of our roads. Please sign this petition to support our efforts in increasing quality of roads in South Sacramento for drivers like YOU.
