Improve Response Times of Governor Lamont and Commissioner Hurlburt after Farming Disasters

The Issue

For too long, our state's farming community has suffered dire consequences from natural disasters – inadequately supported by both slow responses and financial aid from our state officials, Governor Ned Lamont and the Commissioner of Agriculture, Bryan Hurlburt. I, personally, have been a victim of this negligence. On 8/26/2024, my farm was devastated by a 13-minute hailstorm producing 1.5" hail, wiping out everything I grew over the past six months across my 125 acres. The response from the state of Connecticut was minimal; they failed to assist in the rebuilding process and financially support us in these distressing times. This is not the first time either; Connecticut farmers experienced a similar lack of support when the CT river valley flooded in July 2023. Our state officials owe us, the farming community, prompt and robust support in the aftermath of these natural disasters. Not only are we a significant economic engine for Connecticut, but we also supply our fellow residents with safe, healthy produce. We ask, no, demand, that changes be made to improve the response times, both practically and financially, from Governor Ned Lamont and Commissioner Bryan Hurlburt following farming catastrophes. Stand with us, the Connecticut farming community, in the face of ongoing challenges. Sign the petition today.
