The Issue

The residents of Pevensey Bay have experienced the effects of deteriorating infrastructure for far too long. Notably, Coast Road and Pevensey Village areas have been the focus of numerous complaints due to their poor state and need for urgent repair. This region has been deprived of the basic right for solid, safe and well-maintained roads. The lack of action on this issue suggests a disregard for our wellbeing and safety, as these roads have become hazardous and risk which could also increase accidents.

Our plea for better infrastructure has been echoed on numerous occasions by locals, becoming frequently highlighted in neighbourly discussions and on various social media channels. These are not simply roads; they are daily paths we tread to work, school, shops and our homes. Yet, their current condition invariably affects local traffic, emergency response times, and overall quality of life.

Up to 10% of UK's maintained roads have been classified as being in poor condition, with an estimated maintenance backlog of over £9 billion (Oxford Economics report, 2021). In Pevensey Bay - like in other parts of the UK - the state of the roads is only getting worse, and without immediate action, the problem will continue to escalate.

We invite the relevant authorities (Highways) to live up to their role and responsibility, ensuring the community's safety and wellbeing by rapidly addressing these critical issues. Upgrade our roads, attend to the hazardous potholes: provide the community of Pevensey Bay with the quality infrastructure we are entitled to and deserve from paying taxes.
