In August 2023, my husband and I experienced a horrifying incident that no consumers should ever have to go through. We purchased three boxes of Nabisco Nilla Wafers - two for our beloved family recipe of banana pudding, and one for snacking. The day after enjoying our homemade pudding, I fell violently ill for two to three days. To add insult to injury, we discovered a whole cockroach baked into one of the wafers in the third box!

This is not just an issue about an unpleasant surprise in a cookie box; it's about the health risks associated with poor quality control in food manufacturing.

Through research, I have become educated on exactly how bad, how deep, how disgusting and how SERIOUS this issue is - people could DIE! Quality control in the food manufacturing industry is supposed to be strictly regulated by the FDA to protect consumers, but when you find WHOLE, potentially diseased bugs in your cookies, reach in a wheat cracker box & pull out peanut butter crackers (with a deadly peanut allergy), find pieces of glass & metal in your fig newtons or grab a wheat thin & it comes out of the box attached to another cracker by a rodent hair, or your child brings you a piece of tooth and a rock she tried to bite thinking it was a Skittle, etc., then obviously the system has broken down somewhere along the way!

Every year, millions of people are injured or fall ill due to foodborne diseases caused by contaminated or adulterated food products. These illnesses can lead to serious medical conditions or even death (source: World Health Organization). I personally suffered severe medical reactions regarding my own experience and will continue to do so for some time to come. I'm not ok...THIS IS NOT OKAY!! Companies like Nabisco and its parent company, Mondelez International, need to prioritize consumer health over profits by ensuring their products are safe for consumption. We demand change! Modify the framework, impose stricter regulations, improve quality control measures and ensure consequences for violations within the prepackaged food industry.

Please sign this petition if you believe that everyone has a right to safe, uncontaminated food. Let's hold these corporations accountable for their lackadaisical approach towards quality control, as well as lack of care or concern for global consumers.
