PETITION: DEMANDING ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND SERVICES FOR DEAF-BLIND CANADIANS
To the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario, and the Government of Canada:I, Antony Saddik, a proud Canadian citizen, software developer, and entrepreneur, am officially filing this petition of grievance regarding the systemic exclusion and discrimination I face daily due to my dual disability (acquired deaf-blindness).
The Issue:
Despite being "eligible" for services such as Rent-Geared-to-Income housing, Canada Revenue Agency support, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the delivery methods of these services are strictly visual (online portals) or auditory (telephone lines). When I request the essential accommodation of an Intervener—my "eyes and ears"—I am met with refusal, confidentiality barriers, or total silence.
My Demands:
The "Intervener Mandate": That all government bodies (CRA, MCCSS, City of Toronto) recognize an Intervener as a mandatory medical accommodation, not a "third-party" privacy risk.
Accessible Judicial Review: That the Divisional Court of Ontario recognize that a self-represented deaf-blind individual cannot meet standard deadlines without the accommodation of document conversion and extra time.
Ending the "Single Offer Rule" Penalties: That Toronto Housing stop penalizing disabled applicants who cannot access "Choice-Based" portals that are not screen-reader friendly.
Antony's Story:From Egypt to Toronto, I came for the promise of a life where my disability would not be my identity. Instead, I have found a system that offers "free services" on paper but builds "digital walls" in practice.
I am not asking for a hand-out. I am asking for the door to be unlocked.
