Hi All
A quick update on this important community petition.
On Thursday 27th July, myself and some other community members met with Michael Regan (MP for Wakehurst) at this stretch of road to show him first hand our concerns around the safety of pedestrians.
It was a very productive meeting, and Michael and his office staff were alarmed at the number of pedestrians "running the gauntlet" across 6 lanes of traffic near Bambara Oval, as well as the shocking state of the footpath near the Glen Street intersection. Michael saw first hand just how dangerous it is for students from WPS crossing at Glen Street and making their way home from school with trucks passing at 70km/h.
During the meeting it was suggested that if an overpass was not possible, perhaps an additional set of traffic lights could be installed at the Bambara Rd + Forest Way intersection to allow for an additional "safer" crossing for bus commuters and school students. I have now added this suggestion into the petition and have also included some additional details from another concerned community member who's son was hit by a vehicle a few years ago.
All these meetings and updates are proving that we are slowly making progress on this important issue, but we can't stop being active and continuing to highlight just how dangerous this section of road is. Please continue to share the petition, voice your concerns, email our local MP's and state transport body.
Thanks for your support.
