The Bloodvein community, a resilient group in northern Manitoba, has long suffered due to the lasting impacts of colonization. This has disrupted their natural way of living and forced them into a system that does not cater to their needs. One such need is access to affordable and healthy food.

Canada's North is home to some of the country's most food-insecure regions, with over 50% of households experiencing food insecurity - nearly six times higher than the national average (Tarasuk V, Mitchell A. Household food insecurity in Canada, 2020). The Bloodvein community is no exception. This lack of access to nutritious foods not only affects physical health but also hampers social development and community well-being.

The government of Canada has an obligation towards its citizens – an obligation that includes ensuring access to affordable and healthy foods for all communities regardless of location.

We call on the government to take immediate action by implementing policies aimed at increasing food security within the Bloodvein community in northern Manitoba. It's time we rectify this situation by providing them with what they rightfully deserve – access to affordable and nutritious meals.
