I am writing this petition because my family is experiencing an incredibly challenging situation. My children have been placed in care, and instead of collaborating with us to reunite our family, the social services have been uncommunicative and dismissive of our concerns. We have felt isolated and unheard during this deeply personal and painful process.

It is heart-wrenching not only for us but also for countless other families facing similar situations, where social services fail to effectively communicate or work alongside families towards reunification. This system, which is supposed to protect and support families, often ends up tearing them apart further and creating more trauma for the children involved.

In the UK, where our situation unfolds, it is estimated that over 200,000 children are currently in care. It is crucial that the social service system bridges the communication gap with families to ensure that reunification becomes a primary objective whenever it's in the best interests of the child. Statistics from various child welfare studies highlight that children have better developmental outcomes when they are raised within their biological families, provided that a safe environment is assured.

Lack of communication and an adversarial approach not only devastate families but also places an immense amount of strain on the care system. Increased emphasis on effective communication and family collaboration could lead to more successful outcomes and alleviate the pressure on the already overwhelmed care providers.

We are calling for all relevant stakeholders, including the Department for Education and the local authorities overseeing social services, to implement the following actionable solutions:

1. **Mandatory Communication Training:** All social workers should undergo comprehensive training in communication and engagement with families, focusing on empathy and understanding.

2. **Regular Case Reviews with Families:** Families should be actively involved in regular case meetings to ensure their voices and concerns are equally weighted in decisions affecting their children.

3. **Implementing Support Systems:** Establish supportive measures for families to address issues in a collaborative way that facilitates reunification rather than separation.
