Improve children's safety on Wrottesley Road railway bridge

The Issue

Every day, many children walk across the railway bridge between Wrottesley Road and Harrow Road as they travel to and from school. This route is used by families from three local primary schools—Kenmont Primary, Furness Road Primary and Princess Frederica CoE Primary—and the current conditions raise understandable concerns for their safety.

The pavement along this stretch is worn, uneven, and in need of repair. In several places, the kerb has sunk to the level of the road, removing any meaningful separation between pedestrians and traffic. Some of the existing roadside barriers are damaged, indicating previous collisions and highlighting the need for stronger protective measures.

These issues create avoidable risks for children and other pedestrians who use this route every day. A properly maintained pavement and a secure barrier would provide a safer walking environment, helping to prevent trips, falls, and dangerous proximity to moving vehicles.

We believe that simple improvements—such as repairing the footpath and installing a protective barrier along the edge—would make a significant positive difference for local families. These measures would help ensure that children can walk to school safely and that parents and carers can feel confident in the route they take.

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask Brent Council to prioritise these safety concerns and take action to improve conditions on the Wrottesley Road railway bridge. By doing so, the council will help create a safer, more accessible path for the children of our community and provide reassurance to everyone who uses this route.
