Improve Balmoral Skatepark to Nurture Future Skating Generation

The issue

As a passionate local skater, I love the determination, perseverance, and sense of risk that accompanies my sport. Skating promotes camaraderie, mate ship, and respect - values crucial for the younger generation. However, in Balmoral, our opportunities to nurture these qualities are limited.

Our current skatepark, while having a decent quality skate bowl, lacks necessary street elements. A lot of the time the skatepark gets completely packed and overcrowded and there is just nowhere near enough space to hold this many people. The skatepark is becoming more and more congested and there is just not the facilities to contain this. Aspiring skaters must often travel to Moreton Bay Shire or Gold Coast to practice in better outfitted skateparks—a hardship for many. This not only discourages some youngsters from pursuing the sport but also deprives them of the opportunity to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. The drinking fountain is also filled with grot and is not safe to drink and there aren't any toilet facilities in the area.

By expanding Balmoral's skatepark offerings, we will provide our youth with a comprehensive space to exercise both their bodies and determination—without causing them to travel far from home. In addition, the provision of a high-quality skatepark can serve to promote community bonding and encourage more youth to adopt an active lifestyle.

This vast amount of unused, untouched, and underutilised space is exactly where the skatepark should grow. I propose that the following elements be included in this change...

  • a very long medium height round flat rail meaning lots of enthusiastic skaters like - Kai Saundez, Aiden Gomez, Bernie Cannon, Ryan Williom's and many many more don't have to travel far and wide just to use a flat rail.
  • medium height spine to do fun lines on
  • a long ledge that does not line the edge of the skatepark but has room on both sides to make it fun for all.

Therefore, we are calling upon the local authorities to upgrade the Balmoral skatepark by incorporating both park and street elements. The improvement of these facilities is vital in cultivating the next generation of skaters in the 4171 postcode area and beyond.

Investing in the youth is an investment in the future. Let us gift them with a skatepark they deserve and can be proud of. Sign this petition to urge the necessary authorities to act and improve Balmoral's skatepark and include some toilet facilities please.

Skating, scooting and BMXing are inclusive sports catering to a wide variety of ages and all genders.  Upgrading the park is an absolute MUST DO for the scootering/skating and BMX communities, their families and beyond.
