Amid the increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) in various industries, thousands of human jobs are being substituted with AI workers. AI was initially developed to serve as a helping tool, not to displace human labour. Yet, companies progressively capitalize on AI mechanisms, which are far less expensive than human resources, resulting in massive layoffs.

According to statistics from the McKinsey Global Institute, up to 800 million global workers could be replaced by robots by 2030. This number is even based on early estimates without the inclusion of AGI. In a later report by the institute, they ran a survey showing that a majority of companies plan to reduce headcount over the next 3 years. This widespread adoption of AI technologies allows corporations to avoid the costs related to human labor, drastically increasing their gains. Such a trend not only exacerbates unemployment but also threatens government revenues from income taxes. 

Hence, this petition requests that corporations pay a tax equivalent to human wage rates for the work performed by their AI technologies. This revenue should be utilized by the government to fund social services and lay the groundwork for a future universal basic wage system. This would provide some measure of financial stability and protection for human workers being displaced by AI.

As many people are aware, there are many petitions out there regarding banning AI. With how countries like China are pushing the development of AI without abandon it is unlikely that AI will be banned as it starts to become a national interest.

This petition initially came about as an aim to use AI to help support an aging workforce. With more elderly people out of work being supported by an increasingly diminishing younger workforce the financial burden is insane. The younger are required to work harder and be taxed more to support those who are unable to work.

Using AI wages to help support social support initiatives for humans helps give a financial foundation for people to build on and reduces the burden on the younger workforce.
