Impose Stricter and Public Punishment for Convicted Rapists with Evidential Certainty
The Issue
As someone deeply affected by the rising trend of sexual violence and a strong believer in justice, I strongly feel that it's time to re-evaluate our legal approach to dealing with convicted rapists. It is an undisputed fact that sexual violence has been a pervasive issue for too long.
Our focus is on the cases that involve extreme violence and where there is enough evidence for conviction. These specific cases should, we believe, be met with a proportionate response.
How many daughters need to be sacrificed for us to realise that the existing system is not working. We tried the humane way. IT'S JUST NOT WORKING.
It's been 12 years since Nirbhaya case and our daughters are STILL living in fear. It's ironic that we named her Nirbhaya and yet our daughters and sisters continue to live in fear. We have been ineffective and hopeless for far too long.
Instead, it's time for stricter and public punishment that sends shivers down the spine of potential offenders and meets the calls for justice from countless victims.
The anger, the disgust, the frustration and the disappointment in the minds of the public needs closure. The people cannot continue living lives carrying this burden which gets heavier and heavier every time. They need to be freed from this burden and it can only happen when we have a public display of justice.
This petition is an appeal to legislature and decision-makers to make tangible changes to the handling of these cases, because 'enough is enough'. Why must we uphold our humanity, even when dealing with those who acted inhumanely? When you face a mad dog on the streets, you don't treat it the same way you would treat your own dog at home. It will bite your hand off. Similarly, humane methods of justice are evidently ineffective against these demons. It is time for effective action, and we urge everyone to sign this petition to showcase our unity against sexual violence. Let's root out the demons hiding in human skin by steadfastly upholding justice. A justice whose voice will echo louder than the voice of the crime.
