Living in Ruddington, I have witnessed first-hand the urgency for implementing safety measures on Loughborough Road. Every day, children and adults cross this busy thoroughfare to access Cherubs Day Nursery, Easthorpe School, and the residential care facilities at Balmoral Country House. The new housing developments on Larkspur Drive and Yarrow Drive have increased footfall across Loughborough Road and increased traffic in our village, meaning the need for safer conditions has grown. It is imperative that we act now to protect our community and loved ones from potential harm.

The current speed limit on Loughborough Road allows vehicles to travel at speeds that jeopardise pedestrian safety, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly. Reducing vehicle speed is one of the most effective ways to decrease accident rates and ensure safety on roadways. Research shows that with a speed limit of 30mph, the chances of severe injury or fatality in an accident are significantly reduced by up to 40%.

Imposing this speed limit is not only sensible but crucial. It is a proactive measure that will ensure a safer environment for everyone, particularly those who are most vulnerable. We call upon the Nottinghamshire County Council to address this urgent issue and implement the speed limit change promptly.
