Anti corruption journalist Shane Dowling Kangaroo Court of Australia has been ordered to pay Capilano Ltd
$25,000 for his role in the imported honey scandal.
The Supreme Court has upheld Capilano’s defamation case against Australian independent journalist Shane Dowling.
I spoke to Shane who was positive about the result, declaring Justice Button (without a jury) made a predictable judgement. He was jubilant that the information Capilano were attempting to suppress is now permanently available on the public record via the Judgment:

Shane believes the Judgement illustrates clear corruption in the judicial system and he plans to write a book about his experiences during the trial.
Shane’s articles about the dangers of imported honey have been viewed millions of times and since its case against him commenced, Capilano’s controversial Allowrie honey was removed from supermarket shelves. During this time Capilano Ltd sold out to a largely foreign owned financial conglomerate and changed its name to “Hive and Wellness Australia”.

Shane explained that the $25,000 damages order was insignificant in comparison to the millions of dollars Capilano spent bringing the defamation in the Supreme Court in an attempt to silence independent journalism (Capilano was an ASX listed corporation when it brought the litigation that subsequently delisted when it was bought out and became “Hive & Wellness”)
Defamation proceedings that threaten bankruptcy and imprisonment are possibly no longer a weapon for large corporations to use against independent journalists. Lawyers might begin to realise SLAPP Lawsuits that threaten or use litigation to silence public debate or activism are impotent due to “the Streisand effect” - a social phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of causing the further publication of that information on the internet.

Shane Dowling is a challenging journalist because he forces us to question institutions and authority figures who are not used to having their position challenged. Eg. he was the first to go public with the allegations against Australia’s highest legal figure Attorney General Christian Porter.

Shane warns Australians of the real danger of being sucked into the mainstream media narrative and urges people to support independent journalism by simply signing up to his newsletter here.
