Woolworths are raising awareness about how crucial bees are by removing items from a popular Sydney store.
Beekeepers applaud the positive publicity about the importance of pollinators however many are still furious that Woolworths are stocking cheap imported honey that could carry diseases from country’s like China. Over 270000 people have signed this petition ban imported honey or to make country of origin compulsory on honey but dodgey honey still remains at Woolworths.
Bee lovers also find it hypocritical that Woolworths are stocking herbicide roundup that contains the toxic chemical glyphosate that damages the microbiome on the honeybee and has been linked to causing cancer in humans. Selling Bayer pesticides is causing the bee decline .

It is also important to acknowledge that Australia has over 1900 indigenous bee species that are often ignored and killed because they can’t be exploited like the honeybee. Billions of indigenous bees are killed through land clearing and pesticide use. Neonicotinoids and Fiprinol banned in Europe are still drenched all over Australia.
