Implement weapon detection systems in All Schools

The Issue

The safety of public schools is deeply concerning to me, As I’m sure it is to many other parents. Just last January, a loaded 9mm handgun was found on a student at my eldest daughter’s current middle school. She was only in 5th grade at the time and wasn't attending the school yet. This fall she's transitioned to the middle school, and I am filled with fear every single day. Strict cell phone policies make it more difficult to check if our children are safe. The schools don’t always notify the parents which is even more unsettling .

As parents, we insist that children should live without fear of gun violence as well as staff. looking at the news. It's only the beginning of the year, and already we see a worrying amount of school-related incidents. The tragic reality is, our children are not safe and scared, and that’s not how it should be. Schools are supposed to be safe havens for our kids, the future of our nation.

One life lost is one too many. It's time to push for change. Implementing mandatory metal detection systems in all schools may not solve everything, but it is a definite step in the right direction. Schools equipped with metal detectors/metal detection systems have often found weapons before they are used maliciously, highlighting the effectiveness of this precaution. Require mandatory metal detectors/metal detection systems in all schools to better protect our children. We, as parents, need to raise our voices for our children and ensure their safety. Our children, our future, can't wait. Please Sign this petition to stand up for their safety.

***Decison Makers: it’s not fruitful to continue on this way. It’s detrimental to our children, staff, and parents. Every school’s (handbook) with in the USA claims “safety first” but the evidence in which we are seeing isn’t concording rather deficient. Petitions have begun all over. Parents are coming together. We will not stop until we know our children as well as staff (family’s, loved ones) are safe. It’s hard to focus when you’re in constant fear during the school week. For everyone’s sake, students over ALL need to be able to focus on their education. Teachers on teaching, and parents on not worrying all day.
