Implement Walk-Through Metal Detectors in All Lampasas ISD School Entrances
The Issue
As members of the Lampasas ISD community, affected deeply by the current tragic news trends, we have been witnessing unprecedented threats, injuries, and tragically loss of young lives due to school crime. The protecting force of our children and staff has become a matter of utmost importance to us. As such, we firmly believe that the introduction of walk-through metal detectors in all Lampasas ISD schools at every entrance used for students & staff can significantly stem the tide of these incidents. Statistics have shown that the implementation of metal detectors in schools have deterred potential perpetrators and decreased the likelihood of weapons-related incidents (National Institute of Justice, USA). Schools in Philadelphia enforcing this security measure have also reported a decrease in weapons possession cases (Journal of School Health). While we understand that measures are in place for safety, we believe that there's room to take it to another level - for the sake of those we must protect. We urge the Lampasas ISD administration and other relevant stakeholders to seriously consider this action. Please sign this petition to increase the safety measures in Lampasas ISD schools.
Also few examples and suggestions-
Metal detector off of Amazon- total of 2 - I know that Taylor creek uses the back for car riders and the front for bus riders and entering and leaving parents etc. 2 walk through metal detectors plus a 3 year warranty with Amazon- $5,803.00 free shipping.
Metaldefender.com -total of 2 - $5,199.76 10 unique zones for pinpoint detection. Simple Readable Display Panel. Automatic self calibration & Tuning.Max width of 36 inches this far exceeds the ADA (American Disabilities Act.). Warranty 24-Month standard warranty Limited Parts/Labor.FREE - Programming, Shipping and Security Hand Wand.
If it came down to each students parent donating $10.00 mandatory at the beginning of the year with school supplies list. I highly doubt parents want to refuse a huge safety net for their babies at school for $10.00. Then any money left over from donations can go towards either a maintenance fund (if a metal detector needs work) , or for fun field trips , t shirts, etc.
for example:
$10 per student per year. Estimated :
Kline Whitis Elementary: 722 students (722 x 10 = 7,220)
Hanna Springs Elementary: 722 students (722 x 10 = 7,220)
Taylor Creek Elementary: 722 students (722 x 10 = 7,220)
Lampasas Middle School: 803 students (803 x 10 = 8,030)
Lampasas High School: 1,095 students (1,095 x 10 = 10,950)
