My mother, father, and brother like many other Haitians, has been waiting for a visa appointment for an extended duration. The impact of this closure extends beyond my own family; countless Haitians are caught in limbo, unable to renew their visas and facing an uncertain future.

Haiti is enduring severe hardships: houses and people are being burned, access to food is scarce, and shootings occur daily. The closure of the US Embassy and the lack of virtual options are leaving people to fend for themselves in these dangerous conditions.

The current situation calls for an adaptation of the visa application process. We propose the introduction of virtual appointments and visa renewals at the US Embassy in Haiti. This would allow continued operation amidst ongoing closures due to gang violence and provide a practical solution to an issue affecting many Haitian citizens and their safety.

It’s essential for authorities to adapt and utilize available technology. Switching to virtual appointments and visa renewals would ensure services can continue despite any disruptions and delays.

We call upon the US Department of State to expedite this change and offer virtual appointments and visa renewals as viable options. Help us alleviate the burden faced by numerous American Haitian families due to these extended delays.
