In memory of my dear friend, Predrag Maric, the former Head of the Sector for Emergency Situations at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, I am starting this petition to implement the universal emergency number 112 in Serbia. Predrag dedicated his life to improving emergency response systems within our country, and it was his earnest wish to see Serbia adopt this life-saving measure.

The number 112 serves as the single emergency number in many European countries and facilitates a faster, coordinated response to emergencies of all kinds. At present, Serbia operates with separate numbers for police, fire, and medical emergencies, which can cause confusion and result in delays during critical situations where every second counts.

In the European Union, for example, where 112 has been adopted, it is estimated that countless lives are saved each year due to the streamlined nature of emergency responses, where callers can access urgent help from any emergency service through a single call.

Moreover, the 112 number is not only beneficial to residents but also to visitors and tourists who might not immediately know the local emergency numbers and can quickly be overwhelmed in an emergency situation. The implementation of the 112 emergency number has been supported by the European Commission, highlighting its effectiveness and necessity in safeguarding citizens and ensuring public safety.
