I'm creating this petition due to a personal and urgent concern. The roundabout at Caloundra Road/Kawana Link Way Bells Creek Arterial Road has seen a significant number of accidents and fatalities, highlighting the grave and immediate need for action. Local councils have so far been reluctant to take any action - setting a grim death toll as their signal to act. This is simply unacceptable.

Traffic lights significantly reduce the risk of accidents. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), intersections with traffic signals reduce severe crashes by about 50%. With this statistic in mind, it's clear that traffic lights at the mentioned roundabout could save lives.

Furthering our cause, the implementation of traffic lights is supported by the Australian Pedestrian Council who demand better safety measures for motorists and pedestrians alike. I believe this intervention needs to happen now, before we lose any more lives. The purpose of local councils is to serve the community and its members by making data-driven improvements for the betterment of all, not simply responding to mortality statistics.

Time is of the essence. Every day that action is delayed, is another day we risk another accident, another injury, or worse yet, another death. To our city council: Take this plea seriously and do what is needed to prevent harm, not just count the dead.
