My personal journey has been filled with countless moments of negativity, coercive control, abuse, and even threats of violence from individuals who identified themselves as Christians. This experience shook me to my core, impacting my mental health severely, to the point where I no longer feel safe in or outside my home. No one, regardless of faith or belief, should have the right to threaten or spread hatred, especially targeting the diverse and resilient LGBTQIA+ community.

Unfortunately, my experience is not in isolation. As members or allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, it is our shared reality that hate speech continues to foster a hostile environment. Latest studies indicate LGBTQIA+ people are four times more likely than non-LGBTQIA+ individuals to experience hate crimes (Williams Institute, UCLA). This has to change.

This petition calls for an uncompromised and complete ban on hate speech against the LGBTQIA+ community. Irrespective of religious affiliations, professional positions, or societal roles, nobody should have the right to incite harm or discrimination against LGBTQIA+ persons.
