I am deeply saddened and frustrated by the recurring issue at Tulsa Animal Services where animals are being euthanized despite having adoption or foster applications submitted for them. This morning, yet again, a great animal lost its chance at a new life simply because the necessary due diligence in reviewing emails, voice messages, and call logs was not conducted. It's heartbreaking to think of all the possible happy homes these animals could have gone to, only to be needlessly euthanized because of lapses in communication. This issue reflects a systemic problem that demands immediate attention and resolution. I've witnessed the painful consequences firsthand and I am compelled to act, knowing that others in Tulsa are equally pained by this oversight. Tulsa, like many cities, struggles with animal overpopulation, exacerbated by irresponsible pet ownership and insufficient enforcement of spay/neuter laws. Despite these challenges, it is absolutely unacceptable for animals that have potential homes awaiting them to be euthanized due to administrative neglect. It's critical that Tulsa Animal Services implements a strict and comprehensive protocol for verifying and processing adoption and foster applications before any decision to euthanize is even considered. This includes thorough checks of all communications channels for potential adopters or foster families, ensuring that every possible effort is made to connect these animals with their new families. We urge Tulsa Animal Services to act immediately by establishing clear guidelines and training their staff to follow these protocols consistently. By doing so, we can prevent the unnecessary and heartbreaking loss of life of animals that have loving homes waiting for them.
