I am writing this heartfelt petition following a tragic incident where my 3-pound miniature Maltese dog, Fluffy, was viciously attacked by a pitbull. Fluffy was not just a pet but my emotional support dog, who helped me circumnavigate the immense loss and suffering in my family. For almost four years, Fluffy provided comfort, happiness, and a sense of mental and emotional stability. The loss has left a void that can hardly be filled.

The incident with Fluffy is not a standalone case. Each year, thousands of pets fall victims to similar confrontations with aggressive dogs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the U.S alone (CDC, 2020).

It is imperative that we address this issue at its core and ensure stringent regulations against dogs proven to be dangerous and violent, including requiring euthanasia in extreme cases. This will serve as a deterrent to dog owners, causing them to be more responsible and vigilant about others' safety. Furthermore, it will also help prevent unnecessary fatalities and injuries among pets and humans alike. I have reached out to New York police department, Animal control and various information and help lines to no avail.
