Implement stricter fireworks regulations
The Issue
I am an animal lover and activist, and it pains me deeply to see the distress and potential harm that fireworks cause to animals. I've witnessed incidents where animals have been so terrified by the noise that they've harmed themselves. For example, a poor foal panicked near a fireworks display and fatally injured itself on nearby machinery. These experiences have motivated me to seek change.
Fireworks set off in residential areas, near farms, liveries, wildlife parks, and densely populated neighborhoods have an undeniable impact on animal welfare. The loud noises can cause extreme stress, disorientation, and panic in domestic pets like dogs and cats, as well as farm animals and local wildlife. Animals have heightened senses, and what is entertainment for humans can be a terrifying ordeal for them.
Recent studies suggest that fireworks can not only cause psychological stress in animals but also lead to accidents, fatalities, and long-term trauma. Dogs are often reported running away from home, causing distress not only to them but also to their owners. Meanwhile, livestock can be startled and injure themselves which can be fatal due to the intense noise.
Moreover, the environmental impact of fireworks is concerning. They release harmful chemicals and particles into the air that can affect both wildlife and human populations.
I propose that a new regulation be implemented where fireworks are allowed only at organized and licensed venues. These events should be located at safe distances away from farms, livery areas, wildlife parks, and densely populated residential areas. This controlled setting will help minimize the adverse effects on animals and lessen the risk of accidents.
