There’s a growing scam that’s costing hosts thousands, and it’s time for Airbnb to fix it. Guests book our properties, make a mess, use the space for a party or pre-party, then wait until after midnight—long after they’ve enjoyed their stay—to report it as “dirty.” By the time they complain, 8 to 10 hours have passed, and Airbnb grants them a free night while we take the hit.
This is completely unfair and unsustainable for hosts. If a property has a legitimate issue, guests should report it within 2 hours of check-in—not after they’ve used it and partied.

Airbnb needs to implement a strict 2-hour reporting window for ALL complaints to prevent abuse. If guests identify an issue, they should have two choices:

2️⃣ Stay and allow the host to address the problem—without any claim to refunds later.
This simple policy change would:
✔️ Protect hosts from fraudulent refund claims.
✔️ Encourage guests to report legitimate issues immediately instead of after they’ve used the space.
✔️ Make Airbnb’s rental system fairer and more transparent.
A U.S. survey found that 72% of hosts have had issues with guest-created messes, then blamed the host to get their stay for free, demonstrating the urgency of this problem (Source: Independent Host Survey, 2020).
