Implement Strict Measures Against Eating Disorder Glorification on TikTok

Implement Strict Measures Against Eating Disorder Glorification on TikTok
The Issue
TikTok, a popular social media platform, has rules in place against the glorification of eating disorders. However, these rules are not always enforced. One notable example is the content and profile of Eugenia Cooney. Her posts often depict an unhealthy body image that could potentially influence young and impressionable users to develop or further continue an eating disorder. While we respect her right to express herself freely, it's critical to consider the potential harm her content can cause.
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that can have severe physical consequences if left untreated. According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), 20 million women and 10 million men in America will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Furthermore, research shows that exposure to thin-ideal media images contributes significantly to body dissatisfaction and disordered eating among young people.
We urge TikTok either permanently remove Eugenia Cooney’s content or impose an age-restriction on her profile and content as a necessary step towards protecting its young users from harmful influences. This petition calls for immediate action from TikTok - enforce your own policies consistently and take a firm stand against any form of glorification of eating disorders on your platform.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer online spaces for our youth.
