Implement Speed Calming Measures on Chapel Lane & Longfield Road

Implement Speed Calming Measures on Chapel Lane & Longfield Road
The Issue
When I purchased my house in Heckmondwike in 2019, I looked forward to the quiet, safe streets.
However, persistent speeding on Chapel Lane and Longfield Road has turned this peaceful area into a danger zone for residents and pedestrians.
My property has recently been damaged due to a speeding driver losing control, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, along with numerous other residents walls, gates, fences and cars in the neighbourhood.
After speaking with local residents on these roads, It is clear a lot of other people have encountered similar incidents, and have become victims to these inconsiderate and dangerous speeding drivers.
They too, individually complained to the council and have been rejected any kind of speed measures being implemented by Highway Safety.
Together as a community, we need to stand strong and overturn the decision made by those who do not encounter these incidents on a daily basis and prevent a serious accident happening, or even worse, someone being killed.
Both Chapel Lane and Longfield Road feature treacherous bends that pose a serious risk, with drivers often failing to reduce their speed accordingly. Data shows that speed humps and other traffic calming measures reduce collision frequencies by approximately 40% (source: UK Dept. for Transport).
Implementing these safety measures on Chapel Lane and Longfield Road will not only prevent property damage but also save lives.
There are existing speed measures surrounding Chapel Lane & Longfield Road, which are on Trueman Avenue, Hollinbank Lane, Clarkson Avenue, White Lee Road and High Street.
What makes these proposed roads any different? As these roads are notoriously used as a "Rat run" into the Town Centre.
I am a driver myself and the proposed measures would affect me too, so this petition isn't aimed at the considerate drivers who drive with care, its a prevention to counteract against the inevitable future incidents on these roads.
I urge the relevant authorities in Heckmondwike to take immediate action. Please implement speed calming measures on these roads, and let us reclaim the peace and safety of our neighbourhood.
Sign this petition to join the fight for safer streets in Heckmondwike before its too late.
