The safety of thousands of students, staff, and visitors at Kutztown University is at risk. Each semester, a high number of individuals cross Main Street, located in front of the university's Old Main Building. However, due to the lack of speed bumps, drivers often speed through this high-traffic area, causing a significant risk. Implementing speed bumps would require drivers to slow down, thereby significantly mitigating this danger. This change is not only essential for the safety of university students, staff, and visitors, but it's also in line with Article 27 of the Pennsylvania Code which states that municipalities can install traffic control devices to regulate speed in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic. Therefore, we urge Maxatawny Township to prioritize the safety of its residents and implement speed bumps on Main Street. Your support can save lives. Please sign this petition.

Approximately 2 years ago, a student named Ollie McKeone was hit and severely injured crossing this same street. Ollie sustained severe injuries and has undergone multiple procedures and surgeries because of the car that hit them. This is one factual example of what could happen again if action is not taken to install speed bumps or other speed mitigation devices.
