Implement Specialist Menopause Nurses in Every GP Surgery

Implement Specialist Menopause Nurses in Every GP Surgery
The Issue
I've been fortunate to have supportive GPs up until recently, when a noticeable lapse in care occurred. I was advised to increase my menopause treatment dosage by one GP, who then failed to provide further assistance on the best dosage. When I called back, another GP told me to do the exact opposite and decrease it. In this confusion and disruption, there was never a question about how I felt.
This experience is personal, but it's not isolated. Many women in the UK depend on their local GP surgeries for navigating the complexities of menopause. Unfortunately, the 'one-size-fits-all' model fails to address the individual physical, emotional, and mental health aspects of this life stage. Women are left feeling invisible, unheard and misunderstood.
We need a healthcare system that acknowledges and addresses the multi-dimensional struggles of menopause. The government can make this change by ensuring that every GP surgery in the UK employs a specialist menopause nurse. These nurses, with their specialised knowledge and understanding, will provide tailored support and guidance that women require to manage their unique menopause journeys. Around 13 million women in the UK are currently experiencing menopause, that's a third of the UK's female population (Source: Menopause Matters). They deserve targeted, individual support.
Sign this petition, if you agree that specialist menopause nurses should be a standard service in all GP surgeries across the UK. Together, let's push for a system that respects and supports all women's health and wellbeing during menopause.
