The fear and surprise we both shared in that moment made it painfully clear - there needs to be a more adequate solution for students who vape. We urge for the implementation of specialized vaping areas within educational institutions. This would not only promote respect for personal space but also manage the behavior in a more controlled environment.

A 2018 study by the National Institute of Drug Abuse found that trends in high school students' use of e-cigarettes was on the rise with more than 37% admitting to vaping in the past year. Creating these spaces would offer a solution to an existing problem, rather than turning a blind eye. We call on educators, administrators, and decision-makers to address this issue head-on by establishing designated vaping areas within schools. By doing so, we are taking steps towards accommodating the needs of all students, rather than marginalizing some.
