Implement School Streets in West Bridgford

Implement School Streets in West Bridgford
The Issue
Every day, we witness reckless driving near our schools in West Bridgford. Near misses, driving on pavements - dangerous behaviours that pose a threat to our children. We fear that it is only a matter of time before another child is seriously injured or worse. This frightening reality is personal for every parent, guardian, and community member in our neighbourhood.
Evidence demonstrated by Transport for London shows that School Streets, which restrict car travel at school drop-off and pick-up times, significantly decrease the number of harmful emissions around schools and improve road safety. A study in Hackney, London showcased that around 68% of respondents felt that road safety had improved as a direct result of School Streets ('School Streets Impact Study' by the Hackney Council, 2020).
Implementing Trial School Streets in West Bridgford can change driving behaviours, increase safety, and help to protect our children. We demand that local authorities consider this solution seriously. Please, sign our petition and help us create a safer environment for our children.
A School Street is a road outside a school that is temporarily closed to non-essential traffic during drop-off and pick-up times. The goal is to create a safer, cleaner, and more pedestrian-friendly environment for children and families.
Residents, emergency vehicles, blue badge holders, and school staff (if necessary) are usually granted access. The restrictions mainly apply to through-traffic and parents driving to drop off or pick up children.
