Implement Safety Measures to Reduce Road Accidents on Our Roadways

The Issue

As a long term resident living in this area, I have witnessed an alarming rate of traffic accidents that have led to multiple fatalities over the years. It's devastating to see our community constantly put in danger. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes.

County Road 42 and State Road 44 (update to add County Road 439) in Lake County, Florida have always been dangerous, but we cannot neglect the seriousness of this problem any longer. We demand more effective and prompt attention to mitigate this issue and save lives. Our roads need law enforcement to increase traffic stops related to speed limit enforcement, electronic (solar powered) "your speed" signs attached to already posted speed limit signs throughout both highways, rumble strips on the already marked road lines, an increase road markings to include clearly marked curves and bus stop locations to direct both drivers and pedestrians more safely, and if possible, we suggest adding turn lanes to negotiate turning off of the highways onto all roads leading into residential areas.

We call upon local authorities and the department of transportation to take immediate steps towards this end, making our roads safer and reducing the distressing number of accidents.
