Implement safety measures on Overton Road and Ingliss Avenue

Implement safety measures on Overton Road and Ingliss Avenue
The issue
Every morning, as I step into my role as an educator at the childcare centre on Overton Road, I am haunted by the recklessness of some drivers that compromise the safety of our children. The speeding and hazardous driving on Overton Road and Ingliss Avenue are putting the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community—our children and the elderly—at risk.
I used to walk to work every day and spent most of my time walking, dreading crossing Overton road. I watch through the windows of my childcare centre, as parents hold their children, trying to cross, without a proper crossing. I often sit in my car, during my lunch break, and I writher in fear as I witness:
Drivers cut the corner at the entrance to Ingliss Av,
Drivers going ridiculous speeds with cars parked both sides of the road;
Parents trying to enter childcare and almost be hit from behind by speeding driver,
Aged care patients trying to cross the road as cars speed, almost hitting one (that I have witnessed)
Overton Road and Ingliss Avenue in Frankston are areas where safety should be paramount, not just due to the childcare centre, but also because an aged care and respite centre exist in the same vicinity. The frequent speeding of vehicles is incomprehensible and poses a considerable threat to both the young and elderly, who are unable to swiftly react to such dangers.
Statistics reveal that reducing speed limits and implementing calming measures like speed bumps have been successful in reducing accidents in similar areas by as much as 40%. By installing speed bumps on Ingliss Avenue and creating a dedicated children and pedestrian crossing on Overton Road, we could significantly lower the risks and create a secure environment for all.
We must act now to prevent a potential tragedy. Other communities have successfully implemented such safety measures, and it's time for Frankston to prioritize the well-being of our residents.
I urge authorities to take immediate action by reviewing the current road conditions and implementing the necessary changes to foster a safer environment. Let us make our roads reputable for their safety rather than their danger.
Please join us in advocating for safer roads in Frankston by signing this petition. Together, we can protect our vulnerable community members and prevent devastating accidents from occurring.
