Implement Safer Speed Limits and Traffic Calming Measures near Our Middle School

Implement Safer Speed Limits and Traffic Calming Measures near Our Middle School
The Issue
As a parent whose children will be attending the local middle school on us 11, I am deeply concerned about the speed limit in this school zone. Unlike the regulations in place around other schools, the current speed limit here dangerously exceeds 20 miles per hour. Traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and cameras are absent. This creates an unsafe environment for children. We, as a community, tragically lost a student to this ongoing danger.
In honor of her memory, and for the safety of all current and future students, it is urgent that we instigate a change. We propose that the speed limit be reduced to 20 miles per hour, consistent with the norms in other school zones. Furthermore, the installment of speed bumps and cameras that capture speed limit violators will help enforce this limit.
Consider the sorrow of losing a child. Now imagine the pain is doubled when we reflect that this tragedy could have been prevented with the right measures. Schools should be havens of safety. Parents should be at ease when their children are at school. Yet, if our children cannot be the safest they could ever be at school, then where are they actually safe?
This is only possible with your support. Strive for prevention. Safeguard our young ones. Make sure no child becomes a statistic for a preventable accident. Too often, change comes too late. Let us not wait for another tragedy to happen. It is time we acted. Please, sign this petition to make our school zones safer for our children.
