I am a family member of a man who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident at Hempstead Turnpike and Locustwood Blvd. This personal tragedy has made the dangers of the current traffic system painfully clear to me and I find it necessary to plead with our local authorities to ensure that no other family suffers such a devastating loss.

Investigations have shown that accidents are often avoidable with proper traffic control measures in place. Incidents of speeding on this stretch have led to numerous near accidents and now, a fatality. I am requesting for a reduced speed limit, and a traffic monitoring speed camera at this busy intersection.

It is clear that pedestrian safety here is currently overlooked. Numerous commuters use the bus stop located near this intersection, yet there is no proper crosswalk to safely guide them across the bustling traffic. An accessible pedestrian signal is likewise necessary to notify individuals when they can cross safely. 

By implementing these recommendations, we have a real chance at preventing future accidents and ensuring the safety of pedestrians and motorists alike. These changes will make a significant difference in our community, ensuring safer travels for both drivers and those on foot.
