In our community of Thorntown, IN, USA, children are being put in harm's way daily. Multiple children have been hit by cars while attempting to get to school or bus stop locations. This is a personal issue that has affected many families in our town including my own. Our children are forced to cross highways without any designated pedestrian crossings or adult supervision.

We propose the implementation of multiple designated crosswalks that should be adult-supervised and provided with adequate safety gear. These crosswalks need to be placed in reasonable locations and within plain sight of approaching motor vehicles for maximum safety.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), most pedestrian fatalities occur at non-intersection locations (70%) and on interstates, freeways, or other major roads (78%). By providing supervised crosswalks at strategic points across our town, we can significantly reduce these risks for our children.

This is not just about convenience; it's about the safety and lives of our young ones who deserve safe passage as they go about their educational journey each day. We urge you to consider this proposal seriously and take immediate action towards implementing these necessary changes.
