I am an inhabitant of the Howard Street area in the Nelson ward, and like many others, I am displeased with the parking ordeal we face on a daily basis. With the rise in apartments,flats and additional housing in our vicinity, the lack of adequate residential parking has become a constant struggle especialy for those who do shift work, work nights, have a day off, or are currently out of work. Without resident permit parking during the hours of 8am - 4pm, the local residents, all of us who own motor vehicles, are left with no other option but to either use the pay and display car park daily or anxiously move our cars around 30/60min parking bays when there's space. This struggle isn't just inconvenient, but also costly. The frequent parking tickets that we receive for exceeding the tight time limits on those short-term bays significantly strain our budget. It’s unfair that we should be expected to park so far from our homes. It's time for a change, for us to be given priority in our own neighborhood. Most of the parking restrictions in the area have been the same for over 20years, even though the area has changed dramatically with less businesses due to closures and the buildings then being repurposed for residental use. The winter is bad enough, but come the summer with tourists the parking issue in the area is exacerbated! Other areas within the nelson ward have resident permit parking.  Therefore, we call upon our local council to provide a resident permit parking system. Our community deserves a fair and equitable solution to this adversity we face daily. Please support us in our fight for this much-needed right, by signing this petition.
