Implement reform in child support laws for fairer treatment
Implement reform in child support laws for fairer treatment
The issue
I feel like Good fathers are being hard done by Child Support Australia. All they do is take money from me and many good fathers who are not violent or have had AVOs put up against them. We suffer and have to seek legal advice and fork out thousand of dollars for what for being a good father . I have not had any communication with my daughter who is 3 years old I’ve paid for mediation and the mother denied twice but child CSA DOESN'T take any of that in to account , for the past 9 months all communication has been blocked by the mother with no legitimate reasoning.
This situation is not unique to me, but is a reality faced by countless devoted fathers across Australia. We, the fathers who genuinely wish to play an active role in our children's lives, often feel like we're being punished without cause. Our financial contributions are expected unconditionally, yet our rights as parents to maintain a connection with our children are dismissed without any consideration.
It’s crucial that Child Support Australia re-evaluates its policies to ensure they do not unfairly penalize those who strive to be present and loving parents. It is unfair that child support payments continue regardless of the custodial parent's willingness to foster a healthy co-parenting relationship. Instead, the system should encourage cooperation and communication between parents for the benefit of the children involved.
I urge Child Support Australia to implement a system where child support payments are linked to the custodial parent's conduct and willingness to support a positive relationship between the child and both parents. This should include regular reviews and assessments of both parents’ contributions and efforts towards the child’s well-being.
Statistics show that children benefit significantly from having both parents involved in their lives. A study published by the Australian Institute of Family Studies indicates that children with regular access to both parents tend to do better emotionally and socially. We should be supporting this kind of environment for our children, rather than enabling one-sided dominance that risks damaging familial bonds.
Please sign this petition to help advocate for a more balanced and fair child support system that recognizes and respects the rights and responsibilities of both parents.
