Implement Pay Transparency Law in India

The Issue

In India, every time you think about switching jobs or entering a new career field, you're faced with a daunting hurdle: your previous pay slips. Companies consistently evaluate your worth by your earlier salary, often leading them to offer salaries that are far below industry standards. This pay unfairness makes career transitions particularly challenging and stifles opportunities for personal and professional growth.

I've witnessed this firsthand and can testify to its impact. With every career switch, I'm always confronted with demands for my past salary details, only to be presented with a disappointing and, frankly, unfair offer. It's frustrating, especially when I know that transferable skills – which are valued globally in countries like Canada, the US, and the UK – are undervalued here. In these countries, the emphasis is on the skills you bring to the table, not on where you were previously employed or the salary you earned.

A pay transparency law would not only promote fairness but also help in setting a clear industry benchmark, encouraging companies to evaluate individuals based on skills and experience rather than past pay scales. Such legislation can bridge the gender pay gap, foster inclusivity and diversity, and cultivate a more competitive job market.

Real change can lead to increased employee satisfaction and productivity, retain talent, and bolster India's growing economy. We need to stand together to ask our government to introduce a pay transparency law that mandates companies to disclose salary ranges for open positions and ensures that compensation is based on merit, skills, and potential rather than outdated salary histories.

Sign this petition to make a significant change in the Indian job market and give each individual an equal opportunity to thrive in their careers.
