Calling for mandatory anaphylaxis training for all school staff in Ireland

Through Allergy Action Ireland, a parent group, we are seeking legislative change to provide for mandatory training for all school staff in relation to a life threatening condition Anaphylaxis. 

This legislative change is sought in relation to the draft Education Medical Emergencies in Schools Bill 2026 that is not yet passed into Irish Law. While this draft bill is a major step in the management of life threatening conditions in schools and will give protections to school staff if they need to intervene in a life threatening event. However it is our position that more needs to be done. 

We are asking for the drafted Education Medical Emergencies in Schools Bill 2026 to be amended to include mandatory training for school staff in relation to Anaphylaxis, specifically training in allergy awareness, allergy management and emergency response including the administration of life saving medications for anaphylaxis.
