Allergy Action Ireland (AAI) is a national, voluntary advocacy group of people with, and parents of children living with life-threatening food allergies. We exist to make the invisible visible and to drive meaningful change at a national level in the Republic of Ireland.
AAI wish to gather the views of teachers and special needs assistants to support our advocacy work around allergies in schools. An estimated 160,000 people (1–2% of adults and 5–6% of children), live with food allergies. A 2024 study from the University of Galway found that 80% of teachers and special needs assistants in primary schools had not been trained to recognise the signs of a severe allergic reaction and 77% were not trained to administer an adrenaline auto-injector.
Data collected in this survey will be anonymous and used for research and advocacy purposes only. Please share this survey at your child’s school or with any teachers / school staff that you know.
