Implement Nationwide Amber Alert for Missing Indigenous People

The Issue

This petition comes from deep personal concern and arises from alarming statistics. The violence against Indigenous people, particularly those living on reservations, can be up to ten times higher than national averages as per a study funded by the National Institute of Justice in 2008. Among these disturbing numbers, we also mourn the loss of Cole Brings Plenty.

What is more disturbing is the absence of research and data on violence, especially murder rates, among American Indian and Alaska Native women residing in urban areas. The Urban Indian Health Institute has indicated the dire lack of such studies. The gap in this crucial information is a further injustice that highlights the systemic negligence and dismissal of Indigenous communities.

To protect Indigenous people and uphold their rights, we urge the Federal Government to institute a nationwide Amber alert system specially designed for missing Indigenous people. It is time to increase awareness, intensify efforts, and prioritize the lives and safety of Indigenous populations. Ignorance can no longer be an excuse. In memory of Cole Brings Plenty, and countless others who may have suffered similar fates, let us act now.

Together, we can bring change. Amplify this call for justice. Sign our petition.
