The Issue

Living in Atlanta, I witness the undeniable impact of climate change and pollution, especially within the confines of my own school. According to the American Lung Association, Atlanta's air quality has worsened and is among the worst in the south-eastern United States for ozone smog and particle pollution. It's disheartening to see the environment around us deteriorating at such a pace when we have sustainable options at our disposal. One of these viable solutions is the implementation of solar panels. Not only would they significantly reduce our carbon footprint, but they would also pave the way for a cleaner, healthier environment for our entire school community.

The potential of solar power isn't just limited to my school; I envision a future where schools across Atlanta choose sustainability. By 2030, it is my dream to see solar panels installed on the roofs of every school in Atlanta. This is not just an environmental measure but an educational opportunity for our students to learn about renewable energy and its benefits first-hand.

The case for solar energy in schools is compelling. According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, schools that have installed solar systems have seen a reduction in their energy costs by an average of 15-30%. Moreover, utilizing Atlanta's abundant sunshine would allow widespread access to renewable energy, making it an economically savvy investment in the long run.

However, moving forward with this initiative requires support from educational authorities and the local government. Ensuring the commitment of stakeholders, considering policy changes, and allocating funds effectively are critical steps towards achieving this goal.

Parents, students, educators, and concerned citizens of Atlanta, we need to rally together to make this dream a reality. Solar panels are more than just a step towards sustainability; they are a legacy that can be left for the coming generations to cherish. Let's act now and set an example for the rest of the world.

Please sign this petition to urge the relevant authorities to prioritize solar energy installations in our schools and create a sustainable and eco-friendly environment for us children. (and also the adults)
