As a woman who experienced the fallout of a false sexual assault accusation firsthand, I speak to you both personally and emotionally. My ex-husband, a man of 20 years, was falsely accused of this heinous act and spent a year in remand before he was released. Thankfully the accuser admitted to her deceit, however the trail of destruction left behind is permanent. The impact is far reaching, affecting his life, my life, and the lives of our children.

Worse yet, this was not her first accusation. This woman had made several false accusations in the past, executing a pattern of behavior that is not only detrimental, but deeply dangerous. She escaped the consequences of her actions while we carry the scars of her deceit every day. This is not right, and this should not be happening.

Everyone should be held accountable for their actions, especially when such actions lead to mental, emotional, social, and financial harm. Men and their families need protection from these baseless allegations. The damage and trauma caused by such false accusations cannot be underestimated and it is argued that false allegations make up an estimated 2%-10% of all cases (Kelly, L., Lovett, J., & Regan, L. (2005). "A gap or a chasm? Attrition in reported rape cases"). This signifies the existence of numerous innocent individuals who have been wrongfully labelled as criminals.

For these reasons, we need support in our fight for justice. We are advocating for the creation of a national register for individuals who make false sexual assault accusations. We believe this move will drive accountability, offering a layer of protection for potential victims of false allegations.
