The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the well-being of our health care workers and believe that a mandatory retirement age should be set in place. It is my personal belief that all health care employees should be required to retire at the age of 70. This is not just a personal opinion, but one rooted in concern for both the workers themselves and their patients.

As we age, our cognitive abilities naturally decline. According to a study by Harvard Medical School, after age 60, physicians' ability to provide quality medical care can decrease (Harvard Medical School, "Aging and Declining Skills"). This can lead to increased medical errors which put patient safety at risk.

Moreover, healthcare work is physically demanding. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that healthcare jobs have one of the highest rates of injury or illness (U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics). Older healthcare workers are more susceptible to these occupational hazards due to natural aging processes.

Therefore, implementing a mandatory retirement age would protect both our valued health care professionals from undue physical strain and ensure high-quality patient care continues unhindered.
