With the increasing destabilization of the world, it has become a personal issue for me - and, I believe, for all Canadians - that we must take a proactive stance towards defending our country. Threats from our closest ally have made us realize that we cannot rely on diplomacy alone. In light of these circumstances, it becomes all the more necessary to advocate for mandatory military service for all eligible Canadians.

This petition proposes an essential step to ensure that our country has the necessary manpower and skills to protect its sovereignty amidst degrading international peace. By binding every Canadian of a certain age to military service, we not only provide a significant boost to our national defense but also foster unity and resilience among our citizens.

Additionally, increased military spending is required to support this policy shift. As of 2019, Canada spends about 1.27% of its GDP on defense, one of the lowest among NATO countries. This resourcing is not sufficient enough to prepare us for the political climate we are entering, especially considering the imminent threats.

Introducing mandatory military service and elevating military budgets will not only strengthen our defense but also provide beneficial life skills, work experience, and personal growth to those involved. The introduction of mandatory military service in countries like Singapore, Switzerland, and Israel has proven to be an effective strategy in safeguarding their nations.  This is not about turning Canada into an aggressive military power but to allow it the possibility of defending itself from foreign aggression. 

For the peace and prosperity of our future generations, it is time we strengthen our nation internally. We call upon the Canadian Government to implement mandatory military service for all eligible Canadians and allocate the necessary funds to support this change.
