Tragedy struck our community in West Covina, CA on Thanksgiving 2023. Adrian Fuentes (20yrs old) and his girlfriend, Malerie Santos (20yrs old) lost their lives at a local intersection just a few miles from their homes. Just about 24 hours later, another life was taken in an eerily similar motorcycle accident at the exact same spot. The third life taken was another resident within this city, Robert Escalante (29 years old). This is not a coincidence; it's a pattern that has led many to believe this area is cursed due to the high number of accidents occurring here.

This petition isn't just about improving road safety; it's about preventing further loss of life. We are calling for mandatory arrow turn signals to be installed at this dangerous intersection located at the corner of Amar & Westport - and others like it - across our city.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intersections with traffic lights that include dedicated left-turn signals can reduce fatal crashes by as much as 20%. These signals provide clear guidance for drivers, reducing confusion and minimizing risky maneuvers.

Our community cannot afford any more tragedies like those we experienced on Thanksgiving 2023. We urge the City Council of West Covina to act swiftly in implementing these necessary changes.
