As a concerned citizen, I am disturbed by the influence of social media on our young generations who are unable to discern good from bad, being impressionable as they are. Not only does this exposure strip them of a childhood, it also potentially harms their mental health and development, compromising their safety and future.

Recent studies show that heavy social media usage can lead to anxiety, depression, loneliness, and poor body image amongst adolescents (Common Sense Media, 2020). Furthermore, there is growing concern around child safety, with incidents of online grooming and cyberbullying escalating.

To help combat these issues, we are urging to implement a mandatory age verification during registration on all social media platforms, restricting access to anyone under the age of 18. By creating a registration process which requires an ID check before being able to create a profile. Also to review all existing profiles which might belong to underaged kids. This initiative seeks to protect our future generation, ensuring their wellbeing is prioritized.
