Our community in Raleigh, NC currently lacks a comprehensive system to ensure the protection of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Children with ASD often wander or elope, posing a potential threat to their safety. The 'Joshua Alert' system, named after Joshua Robb, a child with ASD that went missing from his California school in 2011, provides a platform to quickly locate these children when they inadvertently put themselves in danger.

According to a Pediatrics study in 2012, almost half of children with ASD have engaged in wandering or eloping behavior. This represents a significant chunk of the estimated 1 in 54 children diagnosed with ASD nationwide, as per the CDC. Immediate and localized alerts, much like the Amber Alerts used nationwide for missing children, are crucial to safeguard these at-risk children.

To ensure the protection of our children and to alleviate the stress on parents and caregivers, we need Raleigh, NC, to implement the 'Joshua Alert' System.
